Let Food Be Your Medicine
At Black Creek Animal Hospital we know that pet owners want to give their pets a long, happy and healthy life. We are here to help you do this. On the Internet, it is very easy to find pet food information pages that use owner's desires to keep their pets healthy by using fear and misinformation to sell their own products. The lack of regulations on pet food in Canada make it very easy for unscrupulous marketers to fool even the smartest people. This misinformation is then passed on through friends, breeders, Facebook, the pet store and even your local dog park "food expert." Here is a great website that can give evidence based answers to your pet food questions www.petfoodnutrition.com
Black Creek Animal Hospital's goal is to help keep your pet healthy, we know that high quality food is the first place to start. Your pet eats every single day. What you put into your pet makes a huge difference to their health, weight and longevity. The food at Black Creek Animal Hospital is:
manufactured based on scientific research
created from high quality ingredients
frequently cheaper than many of the highly marketed products available at the pet store
has a 100% refund guarantee if your pet does not like it.
Nutrition Counselor, Angel, RVT
Angel, RVT is our nutrition counselor. Angel has specialized training in Veterinary Exclusive diets and is available to help you give your pet the best food. Angel will take into account:
your pet's food requirements
the vet's recommendations based on your pet's current health
discuss your thoughts and feeding ideas
Please call the clinic to book a no charge consult (in person or by phone) with Angel, RVT
Would you like your pet food delivered at no charge?...Yes Please!
Black Creek Animal Hospital would like to make it easier for our clients to give their pets the quality of food that they deserve. We will deliver at no charge to clients who live within the L7J postal code area, food will need to be pre-paid (either purchased through our online store, or pre-paid with a credit card). Food deliveries are on Monday afternoons and if you are not home, then provide a safe location for the food to be left. Canned food will not be delivered in below freezing temperatures unless someone is at home as if it freezes, the texture is altered.
Tick and Heartworm Season
June 1st is the time to begin administering your dog's heartworm prevention. We have topical and oral applications. It's also a really great idea to have your dog tested for heartworm prior to beginning heartworm prevention. If we find a heartworm postive pet, we can begin treatment. A simple blood draw can detect heartworm in the early treatable stages. It's a good idea to do this simple test, even if you diligently administered prevention all last year as no prevention is ever 100% effective.
Ticks are out and active above 4 degrees. They are present in longer grass and the leaf layer. Ensure your dog is protected. Call the clinic to find out the best way to protect your pet. We have topicals, and flavoured chews.
Ticks are coming! They are active and seeking hosts at 4 degrees Centigrade. Our mild winter weather increases the likelihood that your pet (or yourself) may become an unwilling host to a tick as you venture outdoors. There are many options to reduce the likelihood of contracting tick borne diseases including topical and oral applications. Call the clinic to discuss which solution is the best one for your dog and your lifestyle.
